I was not being plain, either. My apologies.

I LOVE the desire you have as an artist, to allow listeners into the creation experience, etc. I wish I got that feeling from a small percentage of the artists that I care deeply about.

I still say that the listeners "should" (Though certainly not a requirement), and some do care, about knowing the artists better and how they arrive at their final "Product".

I'm sure I am still being unclear about my intentions. I have a terrible time conveying what I am thinking to other people. I have issues.. :-]

Hmm, well, i think i a'splain myself poorly. first there is the obvious faux pas of the blanket generalization i made. that is a product of lazy writing.

second, its also not that i think there's any malice or purposefulness to the "not caring" here... which is why i used the concept of a "social contract." things are just the way they are. listeners are on t61 to find new music, and artists are their to hopefully have their music heard.

well, thanks for posting :)

“i mean, listeners don’t really care (nor should they) what goes on with the artists."

I could not possibly disagree with this statement any more. This is something that I have been beating my head against for 1 month and 4 days now.

BTW, I’m tracking you here from your sig at maxbumps… I’m glad it’s not just my blood being spilled. (By beating said head against said wall, etc…) :-]

@shortcircuit
"The middle of the song sounds a bit monotonous to me. Even though the guitar notes are scrambled a bit to give variety, the instrument itself takes too much of a back seat to the drums for the variety to be felt."

Yes, actually that is by design, because that song isn't quite finished yet! i'm working with a vocalist and in that space there will most likely be a few passages of lyrics sung there. so that middle part is still "up in the air."

i should have clarified that. my bad. but thanks for listening, the feedback is very much appreciated!

I missed my chance to leave a comment on Airport Exit last time, and it's already late tonight. But I loved the song, and listened to it several times at home and work this week.

First, the new version is much nicer. My favorite instrument, though, is the sort of industrial clank that feels (to me) like it gives the song a pulse. But I've always loved that instrument, and the sense of machination and construction that it brings.

This brings me to my second thought. Can the clank sample be clarified similar to how you clarified the distorted guitar? Too clear, though, and it'd probably just sound like a couple crescent wrenches banging against each other, rather than like some sort of industrial tool.

@sj:
yes i understand, but the whole point of things like Taxi is to get "discovered" by an A&R type, and what's the end game of that? putting out a record. yes, booking a tour is also a big part of that, but i chose to ignore that side of the business and stick to the side i gravitate to... it was just convenience :)

@blinder

You are sharing your art. You're using a different medium, but its one where people 'get' your music and have feedback to you. I guess I'm just trying to say there's another way to get there.

@sj:
i can't speak for anyone else, but for me the live experience is the narcotic end of the art. quick fast high, a lot of work to get it, and leaves just as fast.

i like recording. i love the process of creation, and like a painter or a writer, i share my creation through the releasing of things (demos, cds, records...)

have i completely abandoned the idea of performing live? no, but it isn't my priority. having a huge fan base? nope, not a priority either, the same as a painter just wants to produce, that's what i want to do. if someone else happens to like it (or consume it) then, that just made the experience for me that much more richer.
