Funny How The Past Works

was looking for an old record online, and came across this blog. i found it interesting in as much as the content was quite familiar, as it chronicled a lot of the late 1980′s and early 1990′s hardcore scene, especially that of Syracuse, NY. recognizing a lot of the flyers i just kept scrolling through until i came across this post. oh man, there are just some things you wish would just go away. i was part of this band called oversight. a really terrible yet hook-laden melodic hardcore band, we recorded a demo and a 7″ and then the vocalist decided it was too boring and we just dissolved. best thing that could have happened if you ask me. but now, to see this, almost 20 years later, i just cringe. i “played” guitars in this band and its nothing i would ever consider as part of my “portfolio” of work to be highlighted.

i don’t mean to insinuate that the music i produce now is more significant or relevant than the rubbish on that old record, its just so far removed of what i feel and believe music is now. yeah i’m still straight edge, always will be, and will always appreciate the things i learned from hardcore back in those days, but so much of that energy was mispent and misdirected it almost borders on regret. but not quite that far. its all apart of getting older.
