What I Do Instead of Sleep

March 22, 2008 – 11:01 pm

I recorded another song I just made up on the spot. I had to drop a friend off at the airport this afternoon, so I called it Airport Exit. Getting to and from Logan airport is never cut and dry, even if it is a quiet Saturday afternoon.

I hate dropping off at airports. I’d rather pick up.

So, I wrote this song, and pretty much spent tonight putting it together. It may appear on the record. Its really different, kind of a mishmash of sounds. I think I like it. Its noisy, a bit confusing. I think it accurately describes where my mind is lately.

it seems your work has really solidified since you decided to get to making a final release instead of messing with demos. even if this tune doesn’t make it to the album, it’s got a more developed and refined feeling than your older stuff (which i also liked).

thanks :) yeah i think its been the dedication to putting in a real effort. actually thinking about the release as a whole instead of just individual pieces that could just be slapped together. it has been a process… a learning process.

i had to learn and practice how to make completed pieces, also since i have liberated myself from many conventions, i’ve felt i am more able to make completed pieces (like including vocals for starters. i’ll be damned if i’m going to fall into line just because convention and tradition tells me so.)

I like this a lot better than the other mp3 you posted yesterday. Of course, I’ve heard many elements in the other mp3 previously, so it didn’t feel as fresh. The relative complexity of the rhythm components are nicely offset by the simple quarter note melodies. I like this a lot.
