A Few Items of Little or No Consequence
March 14, 2008 – 1:04 pmJust added the 0×000000 rough cut to the SixtyOne page, if you are so inclined, stop by, give it a little bump. Or not, I can’t tell you want to do.
Second, why does Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky and The Album Leaf all have to be so amazingly terrific? I’m serious. I put a few songs by each on a CD for the (brief) drive into work and I am just sitting there at a traffic light thinking to myself, “dear maker, these fellows get it, don’t they? they understand, everything!”
They just make great music. And its more than just music, its the image that gets painted in my head, the overall aesthetic. I’m always talking about “aesthetic.” I think its important and every artist who makes music brings to it an aesthetic, and there are those that just integrate one that works better for me than others. Its a sparseness, a realness, organic but also fabricated sadness and expressiveness. I don’t think I can explain it any better than this, but if you appreciate the artists I mentioned, then I think you may know what I’m talking about.
